You’re allowed to want the dress. You’re also allowed to slow down for ninety seconds. Most bad outcomes start with urgency (“last one, pay now”) plus a personal account and zero way to verify who they are. You don’t need to become a detective. You need a short checklist.
Ninety-second checklist
Open their bio. Is there a trust / store link that isn’t just Linktree → WhatsApp? Do they refuse any protected payment and get angry when you ask? Are the photos oddly familiar (stolen thrift dumps)? New account, huge “sales,” zero history you can open?
- Only payment method: send to this account, now
- Different number than the one on the page
- Won’t share a public sales profile
- Blocks questions about delivery / returns
- Too-good price + heavy FOMO language

How to pay when they look okay
Prefer a protected checkout link that matches their public profile. Card or transfer through that page — not a random GTBank pasted at midnight. If they only do transfers, at least confirm the name on the account matches what they claim, keep the chat, and accept you’re taking more risk.
If you already paid and it smells wrong
Stop sending more money. Save every message and receipt. Bank fraud desk same day if it was a transfer. Escrow order → open dispute immediately. Tell friends if there’s a clone running — quietly, with the fake handle.
Start this week
- Before the next social buy: bio check + payment method check
- Save one refusal line for blind transfers
- Only chase “last piece” deals that still allow verification
Frequently asked questions
- Are all personal-transfer sellers scams?
- No. Plenty of legit people still work that way. You’re choosing risk. Escrow just lowers it.
- What if they have lots of followers?
- Followers are cheap. A checkable sales record and a sane payment path matter more.
