Selling

Sell safely on WhatsApp without losing money or reputation

You don’t need a website. You need habits that survive messy DMs.

Hi! The Ankara set is ₦28,500. Pay safely here — money stays held until you confirm delivery 👇

Not: “Send to GTBank 012…”

Amaka can source, shoot, haggle, and get a package out of Yaba before lunch. What wears her out is the other job nobody posted for: bank, courier desk, and customer care in the same chat. Wrong account. “I never got it.” A screenshot that wasn’t real. Every seller has a version of that week. These five habits won’t make WhatsApp calm. They stop the expensive mistakes.

Key takeaways

  • Send a protected checkout link — not your personal account in the caption.
  • Ship when the dashboard shows locked. “I have sent” is a story.
  • Stick your trust profile in bio so strangers can check you without a TED talk.
  • One thread per order. You’ll thank yourself when something goes wrong.

Do all five (skipping one is how it unravels)

DM selling isn’t “informal accounting.” It’s informal everything. Drop one habit and the others get harder. Never used escrow? Skim escrow vs bank transfer once, then come back.

Glance at three numbers: in escrow, needs you, released this month.

1. Link, not account number

Stop pasting your personal account under every post. Send a protected checkout link. Money locks before you ship. They see what they’re buying. You see when it’s actually paid — not when they say it is.

2. Ship after lock

Screenshots lie. Wait until the order shows funded, then dispatch. Ship on a promise and you’ve become the insurance company. If it goes wrong later, delivery disputes. For the scam version of this, fake screenshots.

Lock in the dashboard beats a gallery screenshot.

3. One thread per order

Item, price, phone, link, status — keep it together. Three people DMing “is it available?” at once and you’re working off memory? That’s how you ship the wrong dress. That thread is also your evidence if a dispute opens.

  • Create the link before you finalise price (you can edit)
  • Same link on WhatsApp and Instagram — don’t invent variants
  • Mark shipped in the app when the rider leaves, not “later”

4. A score people can open

Put the Trust Layer profile in your bio. Finished sales build a trust score strangers can look at before they pay. “Trust me” is weak in 2026. “Here’s the record” is less awkward.

5. Know the dispute basics before you need them

How long inspection lasts. What photos to keep. That money stays frozen until someone reviews. You don’t have to panic — you do have to know the rules exist.

Keep the record in-platform — not a refund screenshot in DMs.

Evidence in one place beats a 40-message WhatsApp war.

Three numbers (so you’re not opening five apps)

  • In escrow — they paid; you haven’t been released yet
  • Needs you — ship, deliver, or answer something
  • Released this month — what actually hit your wallet

What buyers are actually scared of

It’s usually not your price. It’s paying a stranger and getting blocked. Escrow doesn’t kill haggling. It kills the “who sends first” fight. You close more when the risk isn’t all on them — or all on you. They’re reading red flags too. Give them process, not pressure.

Frequently asked questions

Can I sell on WhatsApp with no website?
Yes. Protected checkout link + public profile URL. WhatsApp, IG, TikTok — same links.
When do I ship?
When the order shows payment locked in your dashboard. Not when they send a screenshot.
Buyer insists on my personal account?
Common, and often fair on their side. Send profile + protected link. If they refuse both, maybe they’re not your customer today.
