Terms of Service
Last updated 16 June 2026
Agreement
By using Trust Layer at https://trustlayer.africa, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
The service
Trust Layer provides escrow-backed checkout, seller trust profiles, dispute handling, and related tools for social commerce. We are a technology platform; payment collection is performed through licensed payment partners (currently Paystack).
Escrow rules
- Funds are held until the escrow state machine permits release or refund.
- Sellers should ship only after payment is verified and locked.
- Buyers should inspect items and confirm or dispute within the inspection window.
- Neither party may request off-platform release of escrowed funds.
See How we protect funds for the full flow.
Disputes & refunds
Either party may open a dispute with evidence. While a dispute is open, funds remain frozen. We aim to complete review within 3 business days. Refunds after a buyer-favourable outcome typically process within 5 business days, subject to payment rails.
Fees
Platform fees are shown at checkout before payment. Subscription or Pro features, if offered, are described in-product before you subscribe.
Seller responsibilities
- Accurate listings and honest representation of items.
- Timely dispatch and delivery updates.
- Compliance with applicable laws (consumer protection, prohibited goods, taxes).
- Maintaining secure access to your account.
Buyer responsibilities
- Pay only through official Trust Layer checkout links.
- Inspect deliveries promptly and dispute with good-faith evidence.
- Do not attempt to circumvent escrow (e.g. off-platform refunds for chargeback abuse).
Prohibited use
You may not use Trust Layer for fraud, money laundering, sale of illegal goods, harassment, or manipulation of trust scores. We may suspend accounts and freeze funds pending investigation when abuse is suspected.
Limitation of liability
The service is provided as-is to the extent permitted by law. Our liability is limited to fees paid to us in the twelve months before a claim, except where law requires otherwise. We are not liable for delays caused by banks, payment providers, or carriers outside our control.
Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Disputes with Trust Layer should first be raised at hello@trustlayer.africa.
